Microsoft is a criminal organisation. There is no such thing as "a new Microsoft". It's all gloss, the same machinery of destruction, corruption, and a complete absence of any moral or ethical sense remains intact.

"Microsoft accused of being 'complicit' in persecution of 1 million Muslims after helping China develop sinister AI capabilities"

"Link Click Analytics and Privacy" by John Wilander

Good example of the kind of tradeoffs browsers often have to make. "Just turning off the Ping attribute or the Beacon API doesn’t solve the privacy implications of link click analytics. Instead, it creates an incentive for websites to adopt tracking techniques that hurt the user experience."

This is how the @nytimes @PrivacyProject understands privacy.

I was returning home in my car earlier and my neighbour's cat was in my way in the middle of the road, but instead of walking out of the way, she just sat down. In the middle of the road. Maintaining eye contact. I had to drive round her.

Now we both know who runs this neighbourhood

"Troops" is a camp word. Then again, replacing it with "Tuffies" isn't much better.

Maybe MS have been bricking machines with every update for years and years, it's just that people could defer updates in the past. Now everyone is forced to get bricked soon after release.

Pretty sure there hasn't been a single month since the release of Windows 10 where the monthly update hasn't bricked loads of machines.

My insurance premiums increased, I couldn't get a loan, I always get selected for extra screening at the airport and have been visited by the police twice due to my Alexa queries, but at least a human I will never meet hasn't listened to my voice.

The level of general understanding of how modern technology works & the implications is shockingly poor.

e.g. big news today (and many people horrified) because all technology companies have humans listen to digital assistant voice commands to help train the "AI".

General public not at all bothered by machines listening/understanding/acting on the same data which is MUCH worse.

Big education effort is needed here

Pixelfed will be a year old in a few days.

I'm a high school dropout that has never taken any CS or computer classes.

Web development is just a hobby of mine, I work in the auto industry.

I'm so proud of this project, I never would have imagined that I could make something like this.

Thank you for helping me realize credentialism isn't so important as you think. ❤️ :pixelfed:
